We began this waterfront redevelopment project by clearing the way for something better. Our team handled the full demolition and removal of the existing asphalt and outdated landscaping, giving us a clean slate to work from. From there, we brought in significant amounts of fill material to raise the parking area by roughly three feet, solving ongoing drainage issues and setting the foundation for long-term performance.
Once the elevation was corrected, we installed a brand new parking lot designed to improve both traffic flow and water management. Every detail was planned to ensure the space worked better for daily use while holding up against coastal conditions.
With the core infrastructure in place, we focused on rebuilding key features across the property. We constructed a new dumpster enclosure, upgraded the loading dock, and installed an ADA-compliant ramp to create safe and reliable access to the main entrance. The sidewalk leading to the small vessel pier was also raised, making it easier and safer for foot traffic.
One of the most impactful additions was the stormwater basin placed at the center of the lot. Instead of a basic drainage solution, we built a functional feature that includes a flowing creek and native plantings. This not only manages runoff effectively but also supports local ecology and improves the overall look of the site.
To take it even further, we extended approximately 500 feet of tidal creek into the Cape Fear River and established nearly three acres of new wetlands. Along the shoreline, we installed several hundred feet of living shoreline, helping stabilize the area while creating a healthier habitat for surrounding wildlife.
Even with unexpected challenges along the way, we kept the project moving by staying flexible and solution-focused. Working closely with Atlantic Coast Industrial on a daily basis, we delivered a finished site that performs better, looks better, and supports the environment long term.
